Boston Children's Museum

The Boston Children's Museum offers hands-on, interactive learning experiences for children up to 10 years old, emphasizing environmental awareness, science, art, culture, and health and fitness. The permanent collection includes more than 50, 000 items, and the museum also stages temporary exhibits, such as art studios, black-history, performing arts stages and recycling centers. The Boston Children's Museum is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas, as of February 2010. Participating members can take advantage of special events, early exhibit opening privileges and museum shop discounts.

Boston by Little Feet Freedom Trail Tour

The Boston by Little Feet Freedom Trail Tour offers children ages 6 through 12 an educational walking tour of historical sites that played a vital role in the American Revolution. Tours visit sites such as the former Boston Latin School, the first public school in the United States; the Old South Meeting House; Faneuil Hall and the Old State House. Children receive an explorer's map and see additional points of interest along the way. Little Feet Freedom Tours are offered at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday from May 1 through Oct. 31, as of February 2010. Parents can purchase tickets 10 minutes before tours begin at the Samuel Adams statue in front of Faneuil Hall.

The New England Aquarium

The New England Aquarium, located on the Boston waterfront, is home to an array of land and sea creatures, including African penguins, Atlantic Harbor seals, green sea turtles and lionfish. The aquarium offers several children's attractions, including a hands-on area where kids can touch selected animals, such as lobsters, hermit crabs and sea stars. The Curious George Discovery Center presents art projects, games and activities that teach various aspects of underwater biology. Children age 9 and older can participate in the Come Play with the Seals program that allows visitors to feed and play with the seals or give them a spray bath and massage. The New England Aquarium has seasonal hours of operation, so check before you book your trip.

Tourist stop between Boston and Poconos?

I'll be traveling by car to the Poconos area in early September. My exact route isn't decided yet. What are suggestions for good places to stop about half way?
Historical homes, living museums, boat cruises or similar such attractions would be nice; places with areas for outdoor relaxation but also indoors activities in case the weather is bad.
